Dear Sunset Families,
Happy November, Sunset Tigers! 🐯🧡
As we welcome November, I want to take a moment to thank our Sunset families for your time, partnership, and collaboration during conference week. It was wonderful to have so many opportunities to connect, celebrate student growth, and work together to support our Tigers. We truly value the relationships we are building with our families and appreciate the important role you play in your child's education.
As we head into a new month, I am reminded of how thankful I am to be part of this school community. Our students are learning, growing, and making progress every day, and that happens because of the commitment of our staff and the support of our families.
A HUGE thank you to our amazing Sunset PTA for organizing such a wonderful Trunk or Treat event on Friday! Thank you to all the families who sponsored trunks, brought their creativity to life, and joined us for the fun. Events like these are such a great reminder of what makes our Sunset community so special!
And a BIG shout-out to our Sunset staff who showed up in style! The creativity, enthusiasm, and flair were on full display, and we loved every bit of it! Thank you for going above and beyond to make this such a fun experience for our Tigers and their families.
🇺🇸 Third Grade Veterans Day Performance – Thursday, November 5!
We are excited for our third grade students to honor our veterans with a special performance this Thursday, November 5, at 6:00 p.m. Third grade students should arrive by 5:45 p.m. to prepare for the performance.
We look forward to seeing you there as we celebrate our students' hard work and honor those who have served our country!
🍂 November Spirit Days – Show Your Tiger Pride!
We have lots to look forward to this month, including a little fall fun!
-
Friday, November 20 – Flannel Day! Break out your flannel, plaid, or favorite cozy shirt as we celebrate fall together!
-
Every Tuesday – Tiger Tuesday! We love seeing our hallways filled with Sunset pride! We encourage all students to wear their PTA-provided spirit shirt or any other Tiger spirit wear they may have.
Thank you for being part of what makes Sunset such a special place. Here's to a wonderful November filled with learning, growth, gratitude, and plenty of Tiger pride! 🐾

Hello Sunset Families!
Thank you so much to all of our families who took the time to meet with teachers during conferences! Your partnership is valued, and the conversations you have with our teachers help us better understand and support each of our students. When school and home work together, our Tigers are even more successful!
As we head into November, here are a couple of reminders:
-
Dress for the weather! As the weather gets colder and wetter, please make sure your Tiger comes to school with a warm coat and appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. We plan to get outside as much as possible, even on rainy days!
-
Stay connected! November is full of fun at Sunset! Keep an eye on ParentSquare so your Tiger doesn't miss special days, classroom celebrations, Pizza Friday, and other exciting things happening around school.
Thank you for being such an important part of our Sunset community. I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with you and look forward to all the great things ahead for our Tigers!
In partnership,
Jess Sinclair

SEL Focus of the Week: Building Healthy Friendships! 🧡🐯
At Sunset Primary, our social skills lessons help students develop the skills to understand and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, navigate challenges, and make positive choices.
🧡 November’s Tiger Trait: Empathy
This month, we are focusing on empathy! Students are learning what it means to understand and care about how others are feeling. We are encouraging our Tigers to consider different perspectives, notice when someone might need support, and think about how their words and actions impact others. Small acts of kindness and understanding can make a big difference in helping everyone feel seen, valued, and included!
This week, our SEL focus is on building, recognizing, and maintaining healthy friendships! Students will explore what it means to be a good friend by practicing kindness, respect, empathy, and positive communication. Through learning how to include others, navigate disagreements, and recognize the qualities of healthy friendships, students will strengthen their confidence, problem-solving skills, and sense of belonging within our Sunset community.
Zones Tools to Try: Building Skills for Success!
Each week, our students participate in Zones Tools to Try, where they learn and practice practical strategies to manage emotions, navigate challenges, and make positive choices. Our focus is on taking action! Students build independence, resilience, flexible thinking, and problem-solving skills by learning tools they can use in real-life situations. Our goal is to empower every Tiger to recognize what they need, choose a helpful strategy, and confidently take steps toward success—both at school and at home!
This Week’s Zones Tool to Try: Be a Helper
What is Be a Helper?
Be a helper or lend a hand while moving your body.
- Hold the door open.
- Erase the board.
- Take out the trash.

Sunset Tigers, we're making progress! 🐯
Our attendance is now at 89%, just one percentage point away from our schoolwide goal of 90%! Thank you for your continued partnership in getting your Tiger to school, on time, and ready to learn.
Why does attendance matter? Every day at school is an opportunity to learn, build friendships, develop confidence, and feel connected. Learning builds on itself, and even missing a day here and there can add up, making it harder for students to keep up with new skills and learning.
As we head into November, we have several scheduled days off, making it even more important to maximize the days we have together. We know illnesses and unexpected circumstances happen, but every day students can be at school makes a difference!
We're so close to our goal, but this is about more than a number. It's about ensuring every Tiger has access to the learning, relationships, and opportunities they deserve.
Thank you for helping us keep the momentum going. Every student belongs here, and every school day matters!

The University Place School District website is a helpful resource throughout the year. Families can find school calendars, transportation information and bus routes, school supply lists, lunch menus, district updates, and additional resources all in one place.
As we head into the holiday season, we recognize that this time of year can bring additional challenges for some of our families. At Sunset, we want every family to feel supported and know that we are here to help! We are grateful to once again partner with Families Unlimited Network to provide holiday assistance to families who may need a little extra support this season.
If your family could benefit from this opportunity, please reach out to our school counselor, Mrs. Cheri', for more information. We are thankful for the opportunity to support our Sunset families!
