Dear Sunset Families,
Happy Sunday, Sunset Tiger Families! 🐯🧡🖤
As we head into another exciting week at Sunset Primary, I want to thank you for your continued partnership and support! It has been wonderful watching our Tigers grow in confidence, build friendships, and strengthen their skills as learners and leaders.
Each day brings new opportunities to learn, celebrate successes, and practice the importance of being safe, respectful, responsible, and kind.
With Conference Week coming up October 26–30, we are excited for the opportunity to connect with our families! Conferences are a meaningful time to celebrate your child's growth, reflect on their strengths and areas for continued development, and work together to establish goals for the months ahead. We truly value your perspectives and insights as we partner to support each child's academic, social, and emotional success.
Please remember that students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. each day during Conference Week.
New Building Construction Feedback
University Place School District wants your feedback on the Curtis High School renovation project! What would you retain from the current buildings, and what new features would you include? What do you want the new construction to look like, and how would you like it to feel when you walk inside? Future Vikings, parents, staff, and community members are all invited to share their thoughts on the upgrades to Curtis High School. Click here to take the survey.
Thank you for being such an important part of our Sunset community! Together, we are creating a school where every Tiger feels connected, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Here's to another wonderful week of learning, growing, and showing our Tiger Pride! 🐾
With Tiger Pride,
Mrs. Vaughan

October is Bullying Prevention Month
At Sunset, we want every Tiger to feel safe, respected, included, and connected. October is Bullying Prevention Month, making it a great time to talk with our children about kindness, respectful relationships, and what to do when they or someone else is being hurt.
One important thing we can help our Tigers understand is the difference between bullying and conflict. Bullying involves repeated, intentional, one-sided behavior that causes harm and includes an imbalance of power. While not every disagreement or unkind action is bullying, all unsafe and hurtful behavior matters and deserves to be addressed.
Families can help by talking with children about their friendships, encouraging them to speak up when something feels wrong, and reminding them to tell a trusted adult if they feel unsafe or see someone else being hurt.
Creating a school where every child belongs takes all of us. Thank you for partnering with us to teach kindness, build healthy relationships, and ensure every Tiger feels safe and valued at Sunset!
In partnership,
Jess Sinclair

At Sunset Primary, our social skills lessons help students build the skills they need to understand their emotions, navigate big feelings, and approach challenges with confidence.
This week, our SEL focus is on Growth Mindset! Students will explore the powerful idea that our abilities and intelligence can grow through effort, practice, perseverance, and learning from mistakes. By embracing challenges and recognizing that learning takes time, students develop the confidence to keep trying, manage frustration, and build positive relationships.
Our goal is to help every Tiger understand the power of “I can't do it YET!”—because with time, practice, and perseverance, the things we can't do today can become the things we CAN do tomorrow!”
Through our weekly “Zones Tools to Try,” students learn practical strategies that foster independence, resilience, flexible thinking, and problem-solving skills.
This Week’s Zones Tool to Try: Stand Tall
What is Stand Tall?
- Instead of sitting, try standing to listen or do your work.
- Notice your feet on the ground and stand tall, like a tree.

We’re celebrating a great accomplishment this week. 91% of our students were here at least 90% of the time this week!
Thank you for partnering with us to make school attendance a priority.
As a result of our Tigers being here, they had consistent access to instruction, opportunities to practice new skills, build on their learning, and strengthen relationships with teachers and classmates. Every day at school is an opportunity to learn something new, grow in confidence, and feel connected to our school community.
Let’s keep this momentum going! Regular attendance makes a meaningful difference, and every day counts.
Thank you for helping our Tigers show up, learn, and grow!

Dear PTA Members,
It has been a great start to our school year! Our Run, Walk, and Roll fundraiser was a huge success, and once again, I want to share my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported the fundraiser, helped organize the event, volunteered that day, and cheered on our students. We are so thankful for our Sunset community! Please note we are still awaiting shipment of more Tiger and Keychain prizes- Thank you for your patience!
As we quickly move into October, we have more exciting events coming up, and we would love your help in making them a success!
- Trunk or Treat — October 30 | 3:30–5:00 PM
One of our favorite fall traditions is right around the corner! We are still looking for more families to sign up to host a trunk. The more trunks we have, the more fun our students will have! If you are able to participate, please consider signing up to decorate a trunk and hand out treats.
- Book Fair — October 26–30
The Book Fair is almost here! Students will have the opportunity to explore new books and find something special to take home. We will also have the Book Fair open during Trunk or Treat on October 30, so families can enjoy both events together.
We need volunteers to help make the Book Fair run smoothly throughout the week. If you have time to lend a hand, we would greatly appreciate your support!
